After receiving an email today promising to teach me all the secrets of using Pinterest to build my equipment appraisal business, I thought I’d pop over (to Pinterest, not the offered $395 webinar) and see what all the fuss is about.
Boy, was I surprised to find not only a John Deere page, but also my old pals Ritchie Brothers, Rock & Dirt, and Patagonia. When I did a search for some of my favorites – construction equipment, agricultural equipment, mining and manufacturing – I discovered pages of cool photos and videos. I opened an account and started pinning. Then I went back to some of my Wednesday twitter photos and pinned a few of those as well. Within a matter of minutes, I’d pinned over 2 dozen images to several different boards: manufacturing, industry, ag equipment, construction equipment, mining equipment, cranes, and Equipment Appraisals. Okay, I had to re-pin a few times to get the photos on the right boards …
Turns out that although over 80% of Pinterest users pin mostly fashion, food, wedding planning tips, architecture, craft ideas and cute animal photos (according to some studies), there are certainly some Pinterest users from the equipment industry sector. Along with the aforementioned John Deere, Ritchie Brothers, Rock & Dirt, etc., I found Equipment Today as well as the National Asphalt Pavement Association. So I’m not the only heavy equipment guy in Pinterest town.
Just between you and me, I can’t really imagine that many equipment appraisal end-users – attorneys, CPAs, or business valuation experts – are browsing Pinterest for equipment appraisers. On the other hand, I do take thousands of equipment photos a year and Pinterest might turn out to be a nice place for displaying some of the more interesting ones, as well as photos and videos I find on flickr and youtube, like this video of a harvester transferring rice to a bankout wagon.
